All Sam Rayburn ISD students will be able to receive free breakfast and lunch on campus each day for the duration of the 2021-2022 school year.
Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free and reduced-priced meals. However, the United States Department of Agriculture issed a nationwide waiver from the USDA that allows school districts to take advantage of the Seamless Summer Option though June 2022. This waiver allows schools to provide meals to all students at no cost.
SRISD students must simply select a full meal, which includes one fruit or vegetable, for the meal to be free. Otherwise, items will be charged a la carte. Please note: If your student plans on eating free breakfast and/or lunch this school year, please make sure that any food allergies are noted on our Food Allergy Information Form, which is linked for printing and also included with our enrollment paperwork.
Although no application is required for students to receive free meals, Sam Rayburn ISD is still urging families who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals to submit an application. There are a number of additional benefits that students can receive when a family completes the application and qualifies for the program. For example, SRISD receives additional state and federal funding for each student who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals. Designated for at-risk support, these funds provide SRISD access to additional staff, instructional materials, and other academic support for our students. The amount of state and federal funding available to support these resources is based on the number of SRISD students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
In addition, approved free and reduced-applications during the 2021-22 school year will ensure student eligibility for free or reduced-price meals during the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year while the 2022-23 applications are being processed. Income eligibility requirements will likely resume next year, and the only way to qualify during the first 30 days will be through an application that is completed and approved this year.
