SRISD Health & Wellness

Welcome to SRISD Health Services!

This webpage was created for parents, teachers, and students. Please take the time to explore the various links, as they contain valuable health information. If you have any health-related questions or would like additional information, please contact me. As District Nurse, I service students on both our elementary and JH/HS campus.

District school nurses monitor required immunizations, mandated health screenings, and health trends. Communication with families is important; parents are asked to keep registration paperwork up to date with current contact number, allergies, and medical needs.

I want to support student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow up for all children and staff within our district. I serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers to advocate and facilitate the educational process. As district nurse, I also provide for the safety of students and staff and address the need for integrating health solutions into the education setting.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

Sam Rayburn ISD is dedicated to ensuring an educational environment that also educates students about health and wellness. SRISD has a local School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) advisory team that assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district’s health education instruction.

Per Education Code 28.004, the SHAC team guides and supports all coordinated health partners with the implementation of the coordinated health and wellness curriculum through coordiination of:

  • health education;
  • physical education and physical activity;
  • nutrition services;
  • parent involvement;
  • instruction on substance abuse prevention;
  • school health services, including mental health services;
  • a comprehensive school counseling program;
  • a safe and healthy school environment; and
  • school employee wellness.

SHAC Meetings

Our school health advisory council includes school district employees, health care professionals, parents of students enrolled in the district, and community members who are involved in nonprofit health organizations. Our  District of Innovation Plan, adopted in 2022, received an exemption on the required number of SHAC meetings to be held in a year. The exemption allowed for local control by the SRISD Board of Trustees and the SHAC to determine the number of meetings that are necessary to meet the needs of our district. Federal law does require the meetings to be recorded and published for viewing. Following each meeting, Sam Rayburn ISD will post the recording of the meeting, along with any documents presented.
